Astronaut Don Petit onboard the International Space Station (ISS) took this photograph of Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain, which elevates 8848.86 meters above sea level.
This world’s infamous famous summit sits on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. Everest continues to rise high skywards by approximately 1 centimeter per year due to the progressive crust uplift caused by the convergence of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.
